Racey’s Rescue & Jim’s Team

I was finally able to get out with one of my favorite groups yesterday!  Jim’s Team is an all-rescue sled dog team based near Bayfield.  You may have seen Riley on YouTube a few years back – he likes to goooooooooooooooo.

I visited the team for a quick ride (one of their first of the season, due to lack of snow), and I was able to get photos of Lake Superior in the background of a few of the shots! What is better than happy dogs, fast snow, and Lake Superior?  It was a very, very good day.

I also got to ride backwards behind a snowmobile – nothing like motion sickness while smelling like exhaust.  I kinda love my job 😉 . Thank you Jesse for carting me around in the snow, and for being Jim’s awesome handler (and letting me take photos).

You will notice Jim laying down in the snow with Riley in one of the photos – that’s his way of telling the canines it’s time for a rest.  Love it!  The other thing I learned is that local fishermen have been bringing fish for the dogs.  What an awesome community effort to help take care of some wonderful animals.  I took a few photos of the smoking operation. It smelled incredible.

Jim’s Team will be racing in the Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race in about a month.  I hope you join us in Bayfield to cheer him and the team on.  In addition, I’ll be the keynote speaker for the race, so I’ll be showing more photos of this team during the speech.  Can’t wait!

If you live in the area, the team is actually funded by Racey’s Tasty Dog Treats.  They’re sold all over – and my dogs are obsessed!

Love these photos. Hannah, you really captured these dogs in the act of straining forward – great shots. My fav is not the one the leader in the air – tho I love it – it’s the one of him and the team lunging forward, with his head pointed straight at you. He looks like a character in a Disney film. Love it!
    Now, when do we eat?

Hi Hannah, your pictures are amazing. Riley really looks so intense and I have to say, “I have such a weak spot for dogs that are having fun while airborne.” I find them just amazing. Such great shots and I’m sorry the exhaust got the best of you for a bit and although that did happen, your pictures are excellent examples of some of the sacrifices that a good photographer has to make to get those special shots. Keep up the great work Hannah and stay toasty.
