2015 Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race

The Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race is one of my favorite events up here. This past week I got to get some amazing photos of some very happy dogs – and mushers :).  You can see all of the photos here:  AISDR 2015 Photos (btw – you are a musher and would like a free file for social media – please email me -Hannah@stonehousephoto.com)

I’d love if you’d pin and share this blog or the above link- thanks!  Also – full sized versions of all of these are available here:  My Favorites.

At the start of the race, Al & I headed down to the first corner to get some photos of the mushers and the dogs turning – little did we know what we would be doing shortly…

The pink booties of the ones going by are so fun…

This was the 1st time Al has not run this race in a few years, so he was with me while I was shooting. Oddly, at the turn we were at, a gentleman got injured and had to be brought back on a snowmobile.  Thankfully we were there to get him help (running that distance back to get help in a snowsuit is a little tiring, by the way. Ha!), and Al was able to drive his team back for him.  Being the combination of firefighter and musher was apparently a good combo for this adventure :).

Day 2!  I really focused on getting photos of the dogs up close with my 70-200. Their happy personalities, extreme focus, and incredible drive really shine through.

Happy, stunning images (as usual). I particularly liked the “Love these dogs having so much fun” and the tan and white coat leaper with the, um … ‘expressive’ ears. I feel like I was there – except my nose and toes aren’t cold. Thanks for these and for offering the images to the teams for social media!

    Hannah,
What marvelous captures of all the fun and excitement, as well as the bitter cold weekend! There are so many amazing shots. You did yourself proud, but then you always are amazing with your camera. So enjoyed last year’s shots, so was very much looking forward to the race this year. I’m sure many who were there, especially the teams, will appreciate the opportunity to choose from these stellar photos for their own memories and displays.

Wonderful photos that capture the excitement and enjoyment of these great animals. I was surprised that many dogs did not have their feet covered. Also, I was surprised by the many non-Huskies!! Thanks for taking and sharing these memorable photos!!

Really enjoyed these great photos. Love seeing how much the dogs enjoy what they are doing. Great shots. This would be something to see in person

Great and fabulous pictures!! The dogs are showing such joy! I was at the start of the Yukon Quest a few years ago and the energy level and excitement of the dogs could light a few cities. Many thanks for sharing!!
