How to Use Window Light – a stick figure illustration drawn by Stewie.

My chihuahua drew this.  Just an FYI ;).

Using window light is the best way to get gorgeous photos inside without using a flash.  Sometimes you may have a nervous dog or a sleeping child you don’t want to disturb,  the weather outside is bad,  or you simply don’t want the harshness of flash.

The basics of window light:

1) Put the subject facing towards the window.

2) Position yourself next the window – facing out towards the subject and room.

3) Move the subject (or yourself – experiment with both) to get different lighting and shadows.  As you move your subject further from the light source, you will notice the light gets softer.

Have fun playing and enjoy!
